At 6 cm deep the Bramley is barely deeper than the band that closes it, so it works on a landing where a taller fitting would catch a wardrobe door, or under the sloped section of a converted loft.

The wide opal diffuser sits recessed just inside the stone rim, which spreads the light evenly instead of throwing a ring on the ceiling. In a hallway that has always been the dim part of the house, this is the fitting that fixes it without drawing attention to itself.

Where it earns its place

Landings and stairwells. Nothing to knock, nothing to duck under, and enough spread to light the whole turn of a staircase.

Bedrooms. Even light across the room with no glare when you are lying down looking up at it.

Hallways in pairs. Two of these down a corridor give steady light end to end rather than one bright patch in the middle.

Two finishes, one shape. The walnut band draws a dark line at the ceiling and ties into panelled doors and stained floorboards. The all stone version disappears into pale plaster and lets the material carry the whole piece.

Real stone, so no two are the same

The body is cut from natural travertine, so the pitting and the banding shift from piece to piece and yours will not match the photographs exactly. On the all stone version you see that variation twice over, because the band and the body are cut separately. The macro in the gallery shows the band and the body together at full size.

Fitting it

Nothing to trim and nothing to measure twice. Ten centimetres across and six deep, it goes straight onto the ceiling point with the gear held inside the body. The only thing worth mentioning is the band: the walnut version wants seating square, because a dark line a few degrees off is visible from the end of a corridor, while the all stone one forgives it. Warm white LED bulb in the box, no dimmer, and it is a job for a qualified electrician.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1070/8212/1557/files/travertine-ceiling-light-drum-cream-05-1_40520733-7a89-4085-a4b2-f3c2c0882d20.webp?v=1786536184
